How to Make Soft and fluffy Puri Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon oil
- Water (as needed)
- Oil for deep frying
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
- Add the oil to the flour and mix it well using your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Gradually add water, a little at a time, and knead to form a smooth and firm dough. The amount of water needed may vary, so add it gradually until the dough comes together.
- Once the dough is formed, continue to knead it for a few more minutes until it becomes soft and pliable.
- Drizzle a few drops of oil on the dough and coat it well. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 15-20 minutes.
- After the resting time, divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls.
- Take one dough ball and flatten it slightly with your hands.
- Roll out the dough ball into a circular shape, about 3-4 inches in diameter. You can dust the rolling surface and rolling pin with a little flour to prevent sticking.
- Heat oil for deep frying in a deep pan or kadai over medium heat. The oil should be hot but not smoking.
- Gently slide the rolled puri into the hot oil. The puri will start to puff up immediately.
- With a slotted spoon, gently press the puri on the surface to help it puff up evenly.
- Flip the puri to the other side and fry until it turns golden brown and crisp.
- Once done, remove the puri from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain the excess oil by placing it on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls to make more puris.
- Serve the puris hot and enjoy them with your favorite curry or as a standalone snack.
Enjoy your freshly made puris!
