How to Make Soft and fluffy Puri Recipe

puri

Puri is a deep-fried Indian bread that is soft, fluffy, and often served with various curries or as a standalone snack. Here's a recipe to help you make puris:

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Water (as needed)
  • Oil for deep frying
Instructions:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
  2. Add the oil to the flour and mix it well using your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Gradually add water, a little at a time, and knead to form a smooth and firm dough. The amount of water needed may vary, so add it gradually until the dough comes together.
  4. Once the dough is formed, continue to knead it for a few more minutes until it becomes soft and pliable.
  5. Drizzle a few drops of oil on the dough and coat it well. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 15-20 minutes.
  6. After the resting time, divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls.
  7. Take one dough ball and flatten it slightly with your hands.
  8. Roll out the dough ball into a circular shape, about 3-4 inches in diameter. You can dust the rolling surface and rolling pin with a little flour to prevent sticking.
  9. Heat oil for deep frying in a deep pan or kadai over medium heat. The oil should be hot but not smoking.
  10. Gently slide the rolled puri into the hot oil. The puri will start to puff up immediately.
  11. With a slotted spoon, gently press the puri on the surface to help it puff up evenly.
  12. Flip the puri to the other side and fry until it turns golden brown and crisp.
  13. Once done, remove the puri from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain the excess oil by placing it on a paper towel-lined plate.
  14. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls to make more puris.
  15. Serve the puris hot and enjoy them with your favorite curry or as a standalone snack.
Note: It is important to maintain the oil temperature while frying the puris. If the oil is too hot, the puris will brown quickly but may remain uncooked inside. If the oil is not hot enough, the puris may absorb excess oil and become greasy.

Enjoy your freshly made puris!
