Chicago Style deep-dish Pizza Recipe

Chicago-Style_deep_dish_pizza

A Chicago-style pizza is made employing a variety of Chicago-developed techniques. A deep-dish pizza is another name for it because of the way it is cooked.

A special pizza sauce, cheese, and a variety of delectable vegetarian and non-vegetarian toppings are placed on top of this thick pizza before it is baked in a pan.

The ideal method for making a deep-dish pizza is to arrange the ingredients correctly and in the proper order. Additionally, add enough oil to the pan to effectively bake the thick pizza sides.

Here's a recipe for a classic Chicago-style deep-dish pizza:

Ingredients:

For the crust:
  • 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornmeal
  • 2 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup olive oil
For the filling:
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: sliced onions, green peppers, mushrooms, etc.
Instructions:
  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Form the dough into a ball.
  4. Grease a deep-dish pizza pan with olive oil. Place the dough in the pan and press it down, spreading it to cover the bottom and sides of the pan. Make sure to create a higher edge to contain the filling.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Layer half of the shredded mozzarella cheese on the bottom of the crust. Add the cooked Italian sausage on top of the cheese.
  7. In a bowl, combine the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well, and then spread the tomato mixture evenly over the sausage.
  8. Add any additional toppings you desire, such as sliced onions, green peppers, or mushrooms.
  9. Layer the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the pizza.
  10. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  11. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
