Cook South Indian Onion Dosa - Simple Onion Dosa Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup dosa batter (fermented rice and lentil batter)
- 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
- 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped
- A few curry leaves, chopped (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Oil or ghee for cooking
- In a bowl, take the dosa batter. If you don't have pre-made dosa batter, you can prepare it by soaking rice and lentils (urad dal) in water separately for a few hours, grinding them to a smooth paste, and fermenting overnight. The batter should be slightly thick, but pourable.
- To the dosa batter, add the finely chopped onions, green chilies, curry leaves (if using), and salt. Mix well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
- Heat a non-stick or cast-iron skillet (tawa) on medium heat. Once the skillet is hot, drizzle a little oil or ghee and spread it evenly.
- Pour a ladleful of the onion dosa batter onto the center of the skillet and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin dosa.
- Cook the dosa on medium heat until the edges start to turn golden brown and crisp. Drizzle a little oil or ghee on top and around the dosa.
- Flip the dosa using a spatula and cook the other side for a minute or two until it becomes golden brown.
- Transfer the cooked onion dosa to a plate and serve hot with chutney or sambar.
