Cook South Indian Onion Dosa - Simple Onion Dosa Recipe

Onion_Dosa

Onion dosa is a popular South Indian dish that incorporates chopped onions into the dosa batter, giving it a flavorful twist. Here's a recipe to help you cook onion dosa:

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup dosa batter (fermented rice and lentil batter)
  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • A few curry leaves, chopped (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil or ghee for cooking
Instructions:
  1. In a bowl, take the dosa batter. If you don't have pre-made dosa batter, you can prepare it by soaking rice and lentils (urad dal) in water separately for a few hours, grinding them to a smooth paste, and fermenting overnight. The batter should be slightly thick, but pourable.
  2. To the dosa batter, add the finely chopped onions, green chilies, curry leaves (if using), and salt. Mix well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
  3. Heat a non-stick or cast-iron skillet (tawa) on medium heat. Once the skillet is hot, drizzle a little oil or ghee and spread it evenly.
  4. Pour a ladleful of the onion dosa batter onto the center of the skillet and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin dosa.
  5. Cook the dosa on medium heat until the edges start to turn golden brown and crisp. Drizzle a little oil or ghee on top and around the dosa.
  6. Flip the dosa using a spatula and cook the other side for a minute or two until it becomes golden brown.
  7. Transfer the cooked onion dosa to a plate and serve hot with chutney or sambar.
Repeat the process with the remaining batter to make more dosas. Adjust the heat as needed and add oil or ghee before making each dosa to prevent sticking. Enjoy your delicious onion dosa!
