How to Cook Naan Puri

Soft, crispy and delicious Naan Puri Recipe

naan-puri

Naan Puri or Soft Puffy Bread, is a popular Indian bread that is deep-fried until it becomes crispy and golden brown. Here's a recipe to help you make Nun Puri:

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
  • Warm water for kneading
  • Oil for deep frying
Instructions:
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Mix well.
  2. Add ghee or oil to the dry ingredients and rub it in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add warm water to the flour mixture and knead to form a soft and pliable dough. The amount of water needed may vary, so add it gradually until you achieve the right consistency. Knead for about 5-7 minutes to develop gluten.
  4. Once the dough is smooth and elastic, cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.
  5. After resting, divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into a smooth ball.
  6. Heat oil for deep frying in a deep pan or kadai over medium heat.
  7. Roll out each ball of dough into a small circle or puri shape. You can dust the rolling surface and rolling pin with flour to prevent sticking.
  8. Carefully slide one rolled puri into the hot oil and gently press it down with a slotted spoon. This will help the puri puff up.
  9. Fry the puri until it puffs up and turns golden brown on one side, then flip it over and fry the other side. This process should take about 1-2 minutes per puri.
  10. Once the puri is cooked and golden brown, remove it from the oil using a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  11. Repeat the process with the remaining dough portions, frying one puri at a time.
  12. Serve the Nun Puri hot and crispy with your favorite side dishes, curries, or chutneys.
Note: You can add flavors to the puris by incorporating spices like cumin seeds, ajwain (carom seeds), or black pepper into the dough. Adjust the amount of salt and sugar according to your taste preference.

Enjoy the crispy and delicious Naan Puri!
