How to Make Italian Pizza

Italian-style Pizza Recipe

Italian-Pizza

A thin crust, straightforward flavors, and cooking in a very hot oven are all characteristics of an Italian pizza. It is the most typical pizza variety offered in most locations.

Although the thin crust and distinctive pizza sauce of an Italian pizza provide the majority of the flavours, additional toppings like onion, chicken, and other vegetables can also be used.

It is crucial that the oven is sufficiently heated and has reached the proper temperature if you want to receive the best Italian pizza. Pizza could taste undercooked if not.

Here's a recipe for a classic Italian-style pizza:

Ingredients:

For the dough:
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the sauce:
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the toppings:
  • Fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Any desired toppings such as cherry tomatoes, olives, prosciutto, etc.
Instructions:
  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Form the dough into a ball.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to the highest temperature it can reach. If you have a pizza stone or baking steel, place it in the oven to preheat as well. It's important to get the oven as hot as possible for an Italian-style pizza.
  6. In the meantime, prepare the sauce by combining the crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix well and set aside.
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide it into equal portions. Roll out each portion into a round pizza shape of desired thickness.
  8. If using a pizza stone or baking steel, transfer one rolled-out dough onto a pizza peel or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. If not using a stone or steel, you can place the dough directly on a baking sheet.
  9. Spread a thin layer of sauce onto the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Add slices of fresh mozzarella cheese and any other desired toppings.
  10. Carefully transfer the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone, baking steel, or baking sheet.
  11. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and lightly browned.
  12. Remove the pizza from the oven and top it with fresh basil leaves.
  13. Repeat the process with the remaining dough and toppings.
  14. Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Enjoy your homemade Italian-style pizza with its thin and crispy crust, fresh flavors, and aromatic toppings!
