How to Cook Palak Paneer - Tasty Palak Paneer Recipe - Indian Spinach Paneer
Here's a simple recipe for Palak Paneer, a popular Indian dish:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh spinach leaves
- 200 grams paneer (Indian cottage cheese), cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons oil or ghee (clarified butter)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
- 2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- Blanch the spinach: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the spinach leaves and blanch for about 2 minutes. Drain the spinach and immediately transfer it to a bowl of cold water to retain its green color. Drain again and blend the spinach into a smooth puree. Set aside.
- Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter. Then, add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste to the pan and sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, garam masala, and red chili powder. Cook the mixture until the tomatoes become soft and oil starts to separate from the masala.
- Now, add the spinach puree to the pan and mix well with the masala. Cook for about 5 minutes on low heat, allowing the flavors to blend together.
- Add salt to taste and mix well. If you prefer a creamier texture, you can add the heavy cream at this stage. Stir it in and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Gently add the paneer cubes to the spinach mixture. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, allowing the paneer to absorb the flavors.
- Turn off the heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
